...Not the kind of wheel you fall asleep at...

Happy new year, my lovelies!

Talk to you Monday...

Random dream I had last night that woke me with a start at 2:57 AM: I was hanging out with a bunch of friends and my sister, Lesley, at this apartment complex. We're just sitting around the living room, bullshitting and drinking a bit. Suddenly there's all this noise outside, so we peer out the window and this speed-racer kinda little red car (only about as big, and as high, as a horizontal body) guns it past the window and down the sidewalk. Everyone's muttering "what the hell" when suddenly this weird jeep comes driving over across the parking lot. It's got these spinning purple things on the headlights that sorta look like pin wheels. Everyone starts laughing and pointing at the spectacle. Then another one of these jeeps appears and drives past us. It makes a sudden turn and we realize that the pin-wheel-esque items over the headlights are, in fact, blades. Everyone starts screaming as the jeep bores its way through the cement wall of an apartment across the parking lot. A third jeep appears, its engine idling as though it's just sitting there watching us like prey. Everyone starts running through the apartment just as the jeep turns towards us. As we run into the next room, a fourth jeep suddenly bores its way through the cement wall, causing everyone to start shrieking again. I'm looking around the room, trying to figure out how to get out. There's a huge defecit of windows, but suddenly I see this little window at the bottom of the wall that's covered up with cardboard. The fourth jeep is gunning its engine, and I look over and see my sister's face lit up with fear, so I scream for her and point to the small window in the wall. She lunges towards it. I wake up with a start.

Other random dream I had last night that I don't remember quite as much about: Something having to do with a long line of drooling, foaming, rabid-looking elephants coming down a ramp. They're kind of albino looking and their eyes are crazed. Some woman at the end of the ramp is standing there, wiping off their foaming lips and reshaping them slightly so they'd look a little bit more "acceptable" to the general public.

Random TV character that I've had two separate makeout dreams about, despite the fact that I don't find him that particularly attractive in real life: Hyde from THAT 70S SHOW.

Random song I heard this morning that made me think that maybe it'll be a good new year after all: "Sweet Thing" by Van Morrison.

Random word of the day: Trepanation.

Random book I am currently reading: The Best American Nonrequired Reading of 2003.

Random strangely poignant moment in an otherwise depressing movie: Clea Duvall giving Naomi Watts the finger in 21 Grams.

Random set of two fires seen in the same day: Yesterday while driving into work, I clicked on the radio just as the traffic reporter announced that traffic was running exceptionally smoothly this morning. The words were barely out of her mouth when I saw soft plumes of smoke billowing through the air and turned to see a lone car collapsed at the side of the road, its back half completely enfulfed in flames... It was a very surreal moment, given that it was still dark out and the flames were licking very high against the sky--kind of like stumbling across Dali's flaming giraffe while still groggy on your way to your job in the morning.

Then, to top that off, when I was driving home from work yesterday, the sky was filled with this eerie lightning. When I rounded one of the curves on 480, I saw the source--in the distance off the freeway, enormous clouds of smoke were billowing through the sky, lit up by this weird metallic glow that could only be some sort of fire. Turns out that a nearby magnesium recycling factory had exploded at some point during the day. Still going as of this morning.

Random song lyrics whose source I need to figure out: "And I'm ok but you're insane and you give me a reason..." (If you have any idea who the hell sings this song, post me a comment and let me know. You will forever be my best friend.)

Random topic of discussion: What's up with the popularity of this The Da Vinci Code book? I mean, I read it; it proposes interesting religious/philosophical ideas (though it's not like they haven't been mused about before). But good god, I mean, when I was at Border's buying another Dan Brown book, the cashier almost wet himself with excitement over The Da Vinci Code, calling it THE best book he's ever read. THE best book. I'd wager to say I might be able to find, say, one or two classics that might give it an easy run for its money, my friend.

Random Van Gogh-esque Incident

I swear to god, it's no WONDER so many people think i'm mentally challenged. When you have to hear me tell stories that begin with the following, how could you not?

So I ended up bloodying my ear with my toothbrush yesterday.

*You may now nod and chuckle and mutter a "yes, definitely mentally challenged" until i explain further*

I go to brush my teeth, and as I'm mid-brushing, all of the sudden the top part (the part with the bristles) snaps off and--due to the momentum of the swinging brushing motion--the plastic sharpened dagger that was once my toothbrush gouges a couple gashes into the inner part of my ear... Which resulted in a lot of swearing, a big puffy ear, and some unpleasant bleeding... Annoying thing was, the toothbrush is only like a couple months old. Talk about SHITTY. And you wouldn't think that the trajectory of a run-away toothbrush would end with it in one's ear, but apparently that's where the motion sends it. Go figure.

So moral of this story: brush your teeth carefully, my friends, as you never know when you might lose an ear.
